Frequently Asked Questions

Of course, beginners are always welcome. I am very experienced with teaching students who have never picked up a guitar before, ensuring the lessons go at a pace that suits them. I’ll have you jamming your favourite songs in no time!

I teach the majority of my lessons at the pupil’s homes. I find this helps them to learn the guitar even faster as they are in the comfort of their own home and in that familiar environment. Alternatively, if this is not ideal we can look to hire a neutral place in an easily accessible location.

I teach both, and have a wide knowledge of both styles.

Yes, I teach a lot of young people under 16 and would be more than happy to teach your children as well. I find that children younger than 12 love to learn through exciting and engaging lessons covering fun pop songs that they can recognise.

Monday to Friday 10am - 9pm, Saturday 9am to 12pm (£5 more expensive), Closed Sundays.

The length of a session is entirely up to you. Some people have half an hour sessions and others have two hours sessions. I find that the more lessons and hours you put in the faster you will progress.

There is no age limit! You can start at 5 years old or you can start at 55 years old, it is never too late to learn. I do find that children below the age of around 7/8 years old do tend to find it a little more difficult, but that doesn’t mean to say they can’t do it.

No, you do not need to have your own guitar I can provide you with one to use! However, it is advised that you do have your own so that you grow familiar with playing that particular instrument and you are able to practice in between lessons.

I teach both acoustic and electric guitar and teach all varieties of styles, i.e. Pop, Punk, Rock, Blues, Jazz etc.

I would advise a minimum of one lesson a week in order to ensure consistent progress, but some people have one every two weeks and others have 2 – 3 lessons per week, it’s completely up to you.

This varies from person to person but you tend to find that within 5 - 10 lessons or so you will be at a stage where you will be able to name and play most major/minor chords and have the ability to adapt this skill to go on to play some of your favourite classics.

That’s absolutely not a problem. Just let me know within a 48 hour period before the lesson and we can rearrange to another time that best suits you! Guitar Lessons Hull does have a 48-hour cancellation policy which does mean that if you cancel your lesson within this time you will still be charged the full price.
