Music Venues in Hull

Hull has a vibrant underground music scene that is well worth tapping into if you are a local music fanatic!

Here at Guitar Lessons Hull we really encourage our guitar students to get involved within the local music scene, learning the tricks of the trade from watching local and international bands live, as well as performing to crowds in their own shows!

To help you along we have compiled a list of the best music venues in Hull to check out if you are looking for big-name artists or searching for your first gig venue. Enjoy!

Hull New Theatre & Hull City Hall

Hull New Theatre & Hull City Hall is a beautiful and archaic music venue that attracts internationally famous bands to Hull in droves. The likes of Jose Gonzalez, Manic Street Preachers, The Kooks, Richard Hawley and Simple Minds are just a few of the bands that have rocked audiences in the 1,800 capacity venue in recent months. The venue, easily accessible due to its central location on Alfred Gelder Street, HU1 2AA, is one certainly worth keeping your eye on as the quality of music performed here is second to none. If you are a local band you could also cheekily see if you can get yourself a supporting slot alongside one of these massive touring bands.

The University of Hull Student Union

The University of Hull Student Union has played host to both nationally famous bands, with the likes of Razorlight, Kasabian, Happy Mondays, The Arctic Monkeys, the Automatic, The Feeling, Wheatus, The Hoosiers, Bombay Bicycle Club and The Cribs to name but a few, as well as open mic nights for up and coming student acts! Asylum (the name of the SU!) holds a whopping 1,100 students with big gig nights being sold out months in advanced. As a local band, you should be knocking the SUs door down to get a supporting act alongside some of these huge bands! It is the perfect place to build up a bit of university fanbase if you are a local band! For all other music lovers out there keep your eye on who is playing at the SU as we do get some quite big bands now and again.

The Adelphi

The Adelphi is one of the most famous underground music venues anywhere in the country. The likes of The Stone Roses, Radiohead, Green Day, Oasis and more recently Franz Ferdinand have rocked sweat dripping audiences packed to the rafters in this 300 capacity club. Opened in 1984, The Adelphi quickly gained a reputation as one of the best music venues in the local area, attracting quality acts from both the national and international stage. Ran by local legend Paul Jackson The Adelphi is steeped in music history, to play on the infamous stage should be a rite of passage for any young musician aspiring for something greater! It is an absolute must if you are a local band to get a gig here, even just to know that you have shared the stage with some of the greatest rock bands who ever lived! Locate at 89 De Grey Street, HU5 2RU any serious music fan in Hull should be a regular at The Adelphi.

Bonus Arena

Bonus Arena is a state-of-the-art, music and events complex with a capacity of up to 3,500 people that will allow Hull to attract large corporate conferences, exhibitions and trade tours as well as major touring concerts, stand-up comedy, family shows and sporting events. The building is owned by Hull City Council and is managed by ASM Global, during the last year it has managed to attract one hundred artists to add this as a stop on their UK tours including Madness, George Ezra, Olly Murs, Noel Gallagher, Sean Paul, Stereophonics, Catfish and the Bottlemen and more. ASM Global also manages Manchester Arena, Utilita Arena Newcastle, first direct arena Leeds as well as The Baths Hall and The Plowright Theatre in Scunthorpe. You can find the venue on Myton St, Hull HU1 2PS & it has a capacity of 3500.
